The demonstration will address the age-old question, "what are they doing when they put my car on the computer."

VCOA greatly appreciates Jackie Cooper's enthusiastic participation and support of 2009 Midsommar.
Volvo Club of Americahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112992280830696496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4140585619488709105.post-28495600534406098812009-03-14T15:23:00.005-05:002009-03-15T12:22:47.888-05:00Crusin' to MidsommarGetting to Tulsa for the 2009 festivities will be half the fun. After all, this year's theme, Volvo Kicks on Route 66 and the Tulsa activities, have been planned as a celebration of the America's Highway! Exploring Historic 66 along the original alignment(s) should be an integral part of your 2009 Midsommar experience.

Let's all make this the GREAT SWEDISH-AMERICAN ROAD TRIP.

As Midsommar participants are coming from all directions, there are three different Volvo Crusin' opportunities available:

Independent travel;

Route 66 Midsommar Arrival Convoy;

East or West-Bound Volvo Hook-Up Caravan.

For those that wish to explore Route 66 following their own itinerary and pace can utilize the turn-by-turn directions available at
http://www.historic66.com/description/ (see link at right "Route 66 Links").
The website breaks down the entire Historic 66 route by individual state. These instructions have proven very comprehensive and reliable. Many Route 66 adventurers have completed the entire trip from Chicago to Santa Monica using this resource.

Plans are in the works to coordinate East & West-Bound Midsommar Arrival Convoys; each staged to arrive in Tulsa for the beginning of the Car Show. To accomplish this the convoys will leave early on Saturday morning and travel along the Route 66 alignment. A Convoy-Master will serve as leader, navigator and guide for the final miles to the Midsommar venue. It is anticipated that the convoy will last approximately 4 hours and complete the journey in time for vehicle placement at the Car Show.

The third opportunity to experience the Midsommar Route 66 experience is to join up with others along the way on the road to Tulsa with the Volvo Hook-Up Caravan. A designated Volvo Traveler will be completing a significant distance along Route 66. An itinerary with estimated locations and time checks will be sent to all event registrants prior to departure. Midsommar travelers will be invited to "hook up" and join the "caravan" as it motors Tulsa-Bound. The Caravans will meet the East & West-Bound Midsommar Arrival Convoys and become a component of the these groups for the final run to Tulsa.

While the Midsommar festivities in Tulsa will be a great deal of fun, to fully experience the spirit of this year's event, it is hoped that participants can partake of the nostalgia and lure of the open road that Route 66 represents for enthusiasts worldwide.
Volvo Club of Americahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112992280830696496noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4140585619488709105.post-81539161493575414652009-03-10T10:13:00.004-05:002009-03-10T11:04:21.744-05:00Midsommar Website UpThe 2009 VCOA Midsommar website is up and active. The truly creative logo, designed by Event Director Jack Connolly, utilizes some iconic symbols of Route 66 and Volvo. The logo will represent the event in Rolling Magazine, on www.vcoa.org & event website, in all event promotional materials and other media.

The logo features the event theme, Volvo Kicks on Route 66 presented on the classic 66 road sign. Volvo is well represented by the Swedish flag and colors. The stylized V accompanied by the "castellated" shield appeared on some vintage Volvo cars.

The graphics were designed and produced by Don Mackey, a professional graphic artist and proud 1800/122 owner. Don has produced the outstanding graphics for every Midsommar event. His excellent work continues to greatly enhance the event's image. Jack lives in Tulsa, OK and is a serious 1800 guy. He has participated in every previous Midsommar except one. He is responsible for the planning and coordination for this year's gathering.

Tulsa was chosen as the site for this year's event because of its unique place in Route 66 history. US Route 66 (also known as Will Rogers Highway after the native Oklahoma humorist) was the dream of Tulsa entrepreneur Cyrus Avery. According to Jack, "Tulsa retains many features that make Route 66 the most famous highway in the world. Annually, thousands of visitors from every state and numerous nations make the pilgrimage to experience Route 66."

Jack is currently engaged in activity planning and venue selection. One exciting feature of 2009 Midsommar will be both west and east-bound Route 66 Volvo travel convoys. Each will be staged to arrive in Tulsa for the June 20th event. Special awards will be presented for traveling the most distance along the original Route 66 alignment enroute to Tulsa.
Volvo Club of Americahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112992280830696496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4140585619488709105.post-46352532729186210722009-02-01T11:51:00.004-06:002009-02-27T12:09:01.999-06:002009 VCOA Midsommar June 20 & 21VCOA Midsommar hits the "Mother Road" -- Route 66 -- to Tulsa, Oklahoma. This year's MidAmerica Premier Annual Volvo Enthusiast Gathering features the theme Volvo Kicks on Route 66.

The two-day event celebrates all things Volvo surrounded by the lore of the open road. Explore the adventure that was for half a century America's main thoroughfare from Chicago to Los Angeles. Built largely from portions of old wagon trails, the 2-lane highway zigzagged through eight states: south from Illinois and slicing southwest through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and finally, into California.

In 2009, there can be no better way to share you enthusiasm for our beloved Swedes than immersed in the history and nostalgia that have enshrined Route 66 as America's Highway.

Further details will be posted as they become available.
Volvo Club of This is easily accomplished by forming it around a round object. I used a 6oz. tomato paste can. The metal is very pliable and forms easily. Make the curve a little tighter than the glassware as it will spring back upon placement and tend to stay in place better.
After forming the plate, peal back the paper covering the adhesive strip on the back. This will reveal a sticky surface that will adhere to the glassware.
Then just apply the plate to the glassware at a position just below the engraved Midsommar event logo. It's that simple and the result is an unique and attractive memento of your successful participation in 2008 VCOA Midsommar!

One final note: I doubt that the plate adhesive is dishwasher safe. If you plan to continue to use your tankard of another purpose, you may do so, but you will have to come up with your own solution as to where to stick the plate.

Enjoy

Scott
Volvo Club of Americahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112992280830696496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4140585619488709105.post-70280776274927788672008-08-02T12:37:00.005-05:002008-08-02T14:01:41.395-05:00Follow-up from Lornie Haugen

the 2008 Midsommar was more than fun this year. It was a learning experience as well, seeing the community and the Swedish celebrations! It was just awesome, and how great to go back there, sometime in the future. That weekend for me is always a adventure, I live in Tomahawk, Wi and this year I hooked up my 1978 Scamp to see how a tow that far would work with my 850 (with over 400k miles) I went from 30mpg to about 24mpg. The first night on the road I pulled into a Missouri state park..it was great, clean and very nice and because I am old, it cost only $14. Then I drove to Olathe, KS to take in the Delbert McClinton concert in the park that evening (friday). A lot of people and good tunes. After the concert, I drove to Lindsborg,pulled up to the park and slid into the scamp and slept. The Saturday was great, along with the Volvos is was great to learn about the Swedish entertainment, dances and the dresses, etc. I learned a lot! The Swedish meatball sandwich was GREAT! In learning that my Volvo was chosen "best of show" was a shock, I am sure the Scamp helped with that. I felt a bit embarrassed about it, because there are so many Volvos there that probably deserved it a lot more than I did. I was humbled and very happy and to think I almost bought one of the Dala horses like I won earlier in the day.hahaha. It was so interesting to see the evening celebration, I wish I could have stayed to see it all, but I had to head north. I got home at a decent hour on Sunday and had a lot to tell my wife and friends. Another great adventure in my life full of awesome chapters and adventures.

Lornie HaugenVolvo Club of Americahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112992280830696496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4140585619488709105.post-21197307642566594912008-07-15T14:23:00.008-05:002008-07-17T15:51:28.237-05:002008 VCOA Midsommar Best Ever!

Was it the best ever because of the:

Swedish heritage festival venue;

picturesque setting of beautiful Lindsborg;

wonderful weather;

car show's beautiful shaded park setting;

enthusiastic welcome for our Swedish beauties;

great smörgåsbord at Bethany College;

authentic Swedish folk performances;

learning to do the frog dance;

shopping for that perfect Swedish-themed souvenir;

lingonberries on the Swedish pancakes;

scenic vistas of the challenging rally course?

All of these things but most importantly it was getting to share the experience with a wonderful group of Volvo folks! Our VCOA gatherings are truly special events. Of course it's the cars, but even more so, the people. This year was no exception!

I have received a number of requests for the contact information of this year's event registrants. While I would like to comply, VCOA confidentiality policy does not permit distribution of this information. The Club takes this obligation very seriously and we must comply.

However, Bob Foos recommended a great solution. This blog is the result. It has been established as a mechanism for establishing/maintaining contact and sharing information about VCOA Midsommar. In the next few days, all 2008 event registrants will receive details about how to become an "author" on this blog. This will enable the posting of messages, items, pictures, etc. of interest to Midsommar participants. The blog will also serve as a central location for updates of interest to Volvophiles and upcoming developments regarding future Midsommar events.

Please contribute to this Midsommar specific site. Visit periodically (every couple of weeks) to check up on information of interest regarding our club and Volvo related developments.

Thanks so much for contributing to the success of 2008 VCOA Midsommar. 2009 will be our fifth event. Can that be possible? I'm looking forward to our gathering already. Let's make it the BEST EVENT EVER!

Scott Peper

Volvo Club of Americahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112992280830696496noreply@blogger.com0
